(The above images of the flags were drawn by Captain J. Ford in 1841)

In 2015, a formal response was received from Bridgeman Images stating that, they have been investigating the acquisition of an image of the original flag of Ceylon (Sri Lanka), which was taken to the Royal Hospital Chelsea Group. In this regard the picture cataloguing team have made some enquiries and they have spoken to the Heritage Manager of the Royal Hospital Chelsea Group.

According to the Heritage Manager of the Royal Hospital Chelsea Group, the first post-independence flag of Ceylon (Sri Lanka) which is the one in their records, was one that Royal Hospital Chelsea did not actually have in a complete form, as it had previously deteriorated beyond the point of display or indeed recognition.

Unfortunately the Royal Hospital Chelsea does not have the original flag of Ceylon (Sri Lanka) any longer as it deteriorated beyond the point of no return many decades ago and was consigned with others to National Army Museum for recording and disposal.
