Tuesday 19 February 2008
His Excellency President Mahinda Rajapaksa
The President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka
Temple Trees
Colombo 03
Sri Lanka
Your Excellency,
I would like to take this opportunity to convey my grave concerns on the latest developments in Sri Lanka and to emphasize the need to end the current military situation by taking the necessary measure to fulfil the sincere wish of the Sri Lankan people to live in peace.
In 2006, I addressed myself to you in the capacity of the Head of the Royal House of Jaffna. I also stated in my letter that I am prepared to come to Sri Lanka, provided the arrangements are handled by the Presidency, to help in any possible way to accomplish the mutual objective of bringing peace, security and prosperity to Sri Lanka and to Jaffna in particular.
Unfortunately, until now have not received any formal communication from your office, however I would like to bring to your kind attention that I am still committed, as I am at the service of my people for the issues I raised and that I am still willing to provide assistance in bringing a peace settlement that will benefit all Sri Lankans.
The Royal Family of Jaffna feels that it is time for the royal house to play a constructive role in helping to restore peace to Sri Lanka.
I therefore await Your Excellency's recommendations as how to proceed from here in order to bring a halt to the current violence. Diplomacy is the only way to proceed in facilitating a sustainable peace to all Sri Lankans.
Yours sincerely,
Sgnd/. Prince Remigius Kanagarajah of Jaffna
(The Head of the Royal House of Jaffna)
