THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT IS ISSUED BY
H.R.H. PRINCE REMIGIUS KANAGARAJAH
The HIV cases in Sri Lanka have been brought to my attention. Being the Head of the Royal House of Jaffna, I feel it is my duty to take care of the people's needs. The prevention of AIDS is essential, and in this context I would like to suggest that AIDS campaigns should be undertaken to help the people on the island.
Since the time I was working with the Red Cross in Sri Lanka, I have felt that this problem has not been addressed in the way it should have been. Sex education should strictly be implemented throughout the island, so that people at all levels become aware of the issues related to sex, contraceptives and STDs.
There is no point in blaming who stretched the problem so far, we have to come together as a society and solve the problem. The myths have to be broken. The politicians have to look beyond politics and understand that this issue needs major attention and a proper solution, therefore I urge everyone to come together and work for it.
