2013 NEW YEAR MESSAGE ISSUED BY

H. R. H. PRINCE REMIGIUS KANAGARAJAH OF JAFFNA

On the occasion of the New Year, I extend my greetings and best wishes to all the people in Sri Lanka and around the world.

As the Sun rises over 2013, may this New Year bring peace, prosperity and happiness to everyone.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my deep concern regarding the recent incident that took place in the University of Jaffna. The Vice Chancellor of the University of Jaffna, should take all measures in order to prevent such incidents in the future and guide the students to a right path in life.

The detained students of the University of Jaffna should be released without delay.

Also the Law Enforcement Officers in Jaffna should ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future. We must not allow history to repeat itself.

I would kindly request the students of the University of Jaffna and other students on the Island to take their studies into consideration. If you do not think about your future, you cannot have one.

It as been brought to my attention that there are people trying to disturb the peace and stability of the country. Disturbing the peace is a crime in general and those who try to disturb the peace of the country, should be punished by law. There is a saying that goes "it is difficult to build something, but easy to destroy it".

I believe that communication is the best way to deal with conflicts. As long as you don't communicate, you cannot find a solution and to resolve conflicts only communication will lead to a successful solution.

Therefore I urge both sides to return to the negotiating table in order to solve the Tamil ethnic conflict without any further delay.

During the ancient times, in Sri Lanka the administration system worked well. I am confident that if we followed the old administrative system which was there before 1948, it would work well and Sri Lanka would not need a New Constitution.

I would like to remind everyone that when there is a problem in the country, you need to learn to solve the problems, rather than appealing to the International Community. During the reign of my ancestors every problem of the country was solved at the royal court.

It is time to stop using the team "Minority" all the people of Sri Lanka should be treated with dignity and respect and everyone should be able to live in a truly equal multicultural society.

May I wish you all a Happy New Year!

May the blessings of Lord Sri Kailasanathar be upon you all!
