THE DEEPAVALI MESSAGE ISSUED BY

H. R. H. RAJA REMIGIUS KANAGARAJAH OF JAFFNA

On the occasion of the Deepavali the Festival of Lights, I extend my warmest greetings and good wishes to all the Sri Lankan Hindu devotes and the Hindus around the world.

Throughout the world all Hindus celebrate Deepavali with great pomp and enthusiasm. The celebration of Deepavali symbolizes the victory of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance.

On this auspicious day, houses are decorated with diyas lamps and candles placed around the home, in courtyards and gardens as well as on rooftops. The whole house looks dazzling, bright and well lit up.

This is the great festival honouring Goddess Lakshmi, many people believe that Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth and good fortune, visit the homes of devotees on this day. Worship of Lakshmi is performed in the evening seeking divine blessings of the Goddess of wealth.

I wish you all a Happy and peaceful Deepavali.
