A Vote of Thanks for International Aid for Tsunami Victims in Sri Lanka
Wednesday 19 January 2005
I take this opportunity to thank both the Government and Non Government Organizations for the International aid extended to the people of Sri Lanka. I also wish to thank all the foreign and internal individual volunteers for their help at this moment. It gives me great satisfaction to see the world comes together at this crucial time to join hands in giving aid and strength to our country. From this we can have hope that Sri Lanka will be rebuilt and come back to normality quite soon.
I also notice the unity and job magnificence that is being done in the North and East of Sri Lanka. Although the North and East part of Sri Lanka are receiving some kind of aid it does not seem sufficient. It is my own request that the aid which goes to Sri Lanka to be distribute equally and that the people in the North and East to be granted the same rights as the other effected parts of the country.
These people need food to survive as it is there as been enough death and it will be more heartbreaking if people have to die of starvation. They are also citizens of Sri Lanka and should not be treated differently. If they have to travel away from there country they will be known as Sri Lanka and why they are not treated the same in there own country is a mystery. So I appeal to all the International Organizations both Government and Non Government to help these people.
It is also a shame at this time when we need each other, to hear that there are children and women being exploited. It is my request to the aid workers to help prevent such happenings. These children are orphaned by this Tsunami disaster and they need our help. They embody the hopes of Sri Lanka and have to be protected in order to have the good life they deserve.
Once again I extend my gratitude for your kindness.
May God Bless You All.
