The Restoration of the Entrance Arch at Cankili Thoppu of Nallur Rajadhani in Jaffna

The Archway historically served as the entrance to Cankili Thoppu in Nallur, It is a historic monument and is a significant landmark of the Nallur Rajadhani in Jaffna. It is been published in the Gazette of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, No 1,486 - FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 2007. The following ancient monument has been declared to be a protected monument under the Antiquates Ordinance (Chapter 188) (L. D. B. 277/40), by the Minister of Cultural Affairs and National Heritage.

Mr. Bandula Jeewa (Assistant Director) of Department of Archaeology of Jaffna confirmed over the phone the completion of the restoration of the Entrance Arch. The historical structure has been restored to its original beauty. It was reconstructed in 2023, and the opening ceremony took place on 16 July 2023.

This was privately funded by Prof. Dr. Subramaniam Raviraj (Professor in Surgery & Consultant Surgeon) and Deputy Chairperson of Jaffna Heritage Centre. The Department of Archaeology (Regional Office) of Jaffna received the resources for the restoration from the Jaffna Heritage Centre.
