In commemoration of the 500 anniversary of the Portuguese colonization of Sri Lanka, H.R.H. Raja Remigius Kanagarajah was awarded the Grand Cross of the Royal Order of St. Michael of the Wing by H.R.H. Dom Duarte of Portugal, Duke of Braganca in 2005.
