THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT IS ISSUED BY
H.R.H. PRINCE REMIGIUS KANAGARAJAH
I am concerned about the escalation of the ongoing conflict and civilian frustration in Sri Lanka. I cannot be silent or unmoved any more.
It has come to my attention that many massacres have taken place during the recent violence. I ask the government authorities to protect the innocent people of Sri Lanka for them to live in peace and respect their fundamental rights.
It has also come to my attention that several minor anti-social groups are involved in extra-judicial killings, many abductions and threats to the life of journalists abroad and in Sri Lanka.
I hereby state that the Tamil people of North and East are facing a humanity crisis due to the present situation. This should be restored by immediate action and medical facilities should be provided to all those in need.
The A-9 highway is the most important infrastructure to the North, which should be opened with immediate effect, so all people can travel freely without being subjected to long delays and hardship.
I urgently appeal to bring a halt to these killings perpetrated through air strikes in the Northern and Eastern quarter of the country. Due to this, many people have displaced from their homes. It is about time that this wanton blood bath is brought to an end. Let the people of the Northern and Eastern sectors live without fear of war.
The people of Sri Lanka voted for the present government that promised peace with justice and prosperity for the country, however up till now the government authorities haven't shown any document or policy guidelines how to resolve the national conflict, so may years have passed and this work is still not completed. Until it is completed we are all at risk. I stress that there can be no military solution alone to the conflict.
I urge the government authorities for immediate actions to restore normalcy to the North and East and thereby create an atmosphere for a resumption of peace talks between the warring parties.
I appeal to the International Community to take the necessary steps at once to stop the ongoing conflict in Sri Lanka.
I take this opportunity to call upon all the people of Sri Lanka not to be silent or unmoved. We must all work together to restore peace in the country. How much more bloodshed and how many more lives will it cost for this grave situation to be brought to an end?
A lasting peace can only be built on understanding and by working together.
I do hope and pray that we can overcome this problem.
May God Bless You All.
