THE NEW YEAR MESSAGE IS ISSUED BY

H.R.H. PRINCE REMIGIUS KANAGARAJAH

I have great pleasure in extending my sincere greetings to all the People of Sri Lanka on the occasion of the Tamil and Sinhalese New Year. As we begin a new year, I hope and pray that we will be able to achieve peace with unity and strength. As I have mentioned in several messages before this my only aim is to promote friendship among our communities.

During this time it helps us to remind the people of all communities to whom Sri Lanka is home of our rich cultural heritage and much valued traditions. Sri Lanka is a beautiful country and the only way we can make the future bright for our progeny is by being united.

We must encourage the younger generation to come forward and take an important role in our country. Teach them that the only way to achieve a bright future for our country is to be united.

Many massacres, extra-judicial killings and many abductions have taken place during the recent violence. I urge the government authorities for immediate actions to restore normalcy in the country. The people of Sri Lanka should be able to live without any fear of war.

I would like to remind that we should not forget that the Tamil-speaking people are also citizens of Sri Lanka. The government authorities should protect these innocent people to let them live in peace, with dignity and respect of their fundamental rights.

The people have suffered enough. There should be a solution to end this ongoing conflict, therefore I urge both sides to return to the negotiation table in order to improve the situation for the people of Sri Lanka and prevent further loss of innocent lives.
